We're changing the way we register your vehicles for 2011. We want you to send us a picture of your car, and a few background details, like how long you've had your car, what you've done to it, why you love it so much.
We'll then put it all together for this years regsitration folder and you can browse through the vehicles at your leisure.
This is not compulsory, you can have a simple plain text entry if you like, but we thought some of our web surfers might be interested to know a little more about the cars & bikes coming to Brits 2.
If you want to participate send your jpeg and story (less than 100 words) to colinmccabe_xtra.co.nz And thanks for the effort.
Terry's "Trumpy" is a genuine 1966 USA model out of California. She's travelled only 16000 miles, and Terry's has owned her for 11 years.
First delivered to New Zealand in 1992.
Terry loves the raw power and torque
common with many 60's performance machines.
After test driving many MGB's I purchased mine in Thames close to three years ago. My MG was lovingly restored by Mr Tom Hunt of Thames who told me when it arrived to him on the back of a truck he wondered what he had got himself into! Luckily for me he finished with a great little car.
It is a great daily driver running the standard 1800cc engine with twin SU Carbs. My partner and I travel all over in this car as it is such a pleasure to drive and sparks conversation everywhere it goes.
This is my first MG and think I am hooked for life!
Barry tells us the Rover body was built to accommodate the gas turbine engine Rover were developing, which was passed on to
Rolls Royce in a deal that suited Rover at the time.
This model incorporated some innovative suspension design, lateral front suspension coils, De Dion rear suspension, disc brakes all round, power steering and an alloy bonnet.
So what did Rover do with such a large engine bay? Filled it with an all alloy V8 from GM Buick, creating a very successful car.
A dependable American engine, with a solid British body design making for an all round great car
I bought it in Christchurch in Jan 2010 with 87000 kms on the clock. It spent the first 21 years of its life in and around Geraldine and Timaru. Both bodywise and mechanically sound. Originally they had metric wheels and tyres, so tyre replacement could be an expensive exercise. The later turbo wersion had standard 13 inch wheels. It is effectively a Mini Cooper (original version) with slightly higher gear ratios, Averages 46 mpg (or about16 km/litre. They were cannabalised by Mini owners for their mechanicals and prone to rust! A good fun little car and a pleasure to drive!
My recent mid life crisis toy. I have bought her brand spanking last November but too late to bring her down for last year's Brits.
I love the ride down to Tairua and doing the Coromandel loop. Unfortunately I can no longer feel the exhilaration of the wind in my hair but listening to my Triumph purr is pretty hard to beat.
See you there
I purchased my 1959 Triumph TR3a in 2010. It had been completely restored in New Zealand having spent most of its life in Japan, being shipped from the UK to Japan in 1960.
This is the second TR that I have owned, the first, the previous TR3 model I bought in 1963, which sadly I had to part with in 1964 in order to pay my fare to New Zealand and have hankered for a replacement TR ever since.
Luckily I am fortunate in having an understanding wife and am able to enjoy this great sporting marque once again although some 50 years later I am sure that the previous TR was a lot easier to get in and out of!
Yay how exciting. I am looking forward to Brits2. Malcolm & I have just purchased a new vehicle and suspect that we will be bringing her instead of Hilda the Hillman 14. We have bought a 1960 Commer Express delivery van. She's called Connie.
Shes a wee cracker!
See you at Brits !!
Ed's Note:
If only we could all look as good at 51 !!
